Skardu has a cold desert climate with hot summers and chilly winters. Low amounts of precipitation fall in the area throughout the year, with the majority of it occurring in the winter.
The average summertime temperature in Skardu is between 20°C and 30°C (68°F and 86°F) from May to September. It’s typically sunny and clear outside during this time of year, with little humidity. Due to the high altitude and clear skies, however, the temperature during the day can occasionally rise to 40°C (104°F).


Skardu experiences subzero temperatures from November to March, with the average temperature falling between -10°C and 10°C (14°F and 50°F). In the coldest months, the temperature can occasionally fall as low as -20°C (-4°F). During the winter, there are also sporadic snowfalls in the area.


Skardu’s high elevation and mountainous terrain contribute to the region’s generally harsh and extreme climate. Although there are severe weather conditions, the area is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and draws lots of tourists who want to explore the nearby mountains, glaciers, and lakes.
